XCers/Roadies head to the Peak District

Saturday 20th November 2010 marked a historic NUBike moment as both mountain bikers and roadies headed out into the Peak District for a day trip. Transport was entirely arranged with members' cars which allowed costs to be kept down and the recently neglected NUBike trailer to be put to good use thanks to the tow bar on Matt's car.

We arrived in the village of Hope, Derbyshire around 11am and promptly headed for the hills. The mountain bikers took on some of the great technical riding that the Peaks have to offer, suffering from a few punctures and one broken chain, but nothing to stop them from pushing on. Hub-deep puddles and rock-strewn descents were the order of the day and the natural-terrain riding made a welcome change from the trail centres the club frequents. The roadies took in some of the tough climbs and great scenery that the Peaks have to offer, with a blisteringly fast 20% gradient descent providing a welcome note to finish on.

We returned to Nottingham at around 7pm, with everyone exhausted and satisfied from a great days' riding and a smoothly executed outing. No doubt XC/road trips will from now on feature on the club's agenda more frequently!
