Derby University Mountain Bike Club

Derby University Mountain Bike club, now in its 5th year is still a relatively new club compared to those at other universities.  In order to continue as a registered University club we need to have at least 20 paying members.  Being an official club basically means that we can associate ourselves with the University of Derby, and gain funding from the students union.

We have had a bit of bad luck this semester, because a week after the Freshers Fair in September, our president was hit by a car and can no longer be an active member of our club.  This has meant that I have taken on the role of acting president until our president is fully recovered, but this will take a while.  As acting president, I am responsible for recruiting new members and making sure that we get our 20 members.  Unfortunately, at present, we have not managed to find 20 members and the club is in danger of missing the deadline to become an official club, which is fast approaching.

The aim of this article is basically to make people at Derby University, and the surrounding area, aware that the club exists so that anyone interested can join up.

The club is friendly and fun to be involved in, we go for regular rides to various popular riding destinations, and providing we are an official club we will get our entry fees to races paid for, and we will be getting some club kit too.  All riding types and abilities are welcome, and it doesnt matter whether you're a boy or a girl!  I am also looking in to getting some sponsorship for the club.

If anyone is interested in joining up, or just coming along for a ride, please contact myself, Ruth, on 07946 293583 or ruth_oe@hotmail.com.

Thanks to the Nottingham guys for letting me put this article on their site and giving me helpful information on how to go about recruiting new members.

Thanks for reading this article!
