Cycle across Afria for Gorillas

21 September 2004

Can help me? I'm the Fundraising Manager at the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund (the international charity thats working to protect the worlds last remaining mountain gorillas) and I'm organising an AMAZING cycle trip across Africa this September (21-28) and I wonder if any of your clubs members would like to join me? This really will be a trip of a lifetime, and better still, it wont cost you a penny to take part.

The trip starts in Ugandas Lake Mburo National Park and over the next 4 days (and 181 miles) riders will take in some of the most amazing scenery on earth. Well cycle through the flatlands and up into the mountains, reaching heights of 2400m and more. Up here the views are as dramatic as they are diverse: in one direction the grassy yellow savannahs of Uganda and Kenya stretch as far as the eye can see; and in the other, Rwandas fertile green carpet of rain forest drives us onward. No sooner have we had the chance to take in this amazing sight, well start to descend. After a little off roading through a bamboo forest, we will finally arrive in the small town of Ruhengeri in Rwanda. The following day,  the bikes are abandoned and we'll trek into the rain forest to meet some of the worlds most endangered creatures: the mountain gorillas.

To take part in the cycle ride, all you have to do is raise a minimum sponsorship for the Fund and well take care of the rest: flights, bike hire, transfers, food and board etc.

So, if this sounds like your cuppa-tea, and you fancy spending the last week of your summer break cycling across Africa, please contact me and Ill send you an information pack.

Meanwhile, Id be so VERY, VERY grateful if you could publicise this event on your club notice board, events calendar, web site or even circulate it to your mailing list. I'm sure there are a few adventurous gorilla lovers amongst your members and I just need your help to search them out.

Please do let me know if this is something that you could help us with, I'd love to get your feedback and look forward to your reply. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Kindest Regards
