For anybody who doesn't know....
The points race is too complicated too explain quickly; the scratch race is an "ordinary" race of a set distance. In the 4km/3km pursuits 2 people race "against" each other based on the clock, but they do so individually at opposite sides of the track. The 500m/1km TT's are against the clock as well but there's only one person on the track at a time & there's no heats/rounds & finals. The sprint is the head to head - first to the finish line over a few laps wins, but you may need to have to qualify by producing a fast time over 200m before progressing to the ride-off's / finals.
Olympic sprint is 2 teams of 3 people on opposite sides of the track racing 3 laps. The leader for each team pulls off at the end of each lap (leaving the 3rd man to complete the 3rd lap alone).
The team pursuit is 2 teams of 4 people racing on opposite sides of the track doing a 4km pursuit, members in a team take turns leading based on their strategy/ability, (times are based on the 3rd man crossing the line so 1 member can get dropped).
So you can all laugh now with a bit more understanding.
