Attention all Road Riders!..

15 December, 2009 21:00

Ok, I want a general consensus on whether people want to focus on a time trial season, or if people want to road race...

Of course the BUCS TTs are a given! They are:
~3-up 17/4/10
~10m 24/4/10
~25m 1/5/10

up until then the two options are doing a RR series like NCRA:

Race 1 Saturday 6 March Middleton

Race 2 Saturday 13 March Old

Race 3 Saturday 20 March Glatton (Great Gidding course)

Race 4 Saturday 27 March Old

Race 5 Saturday 3 April Southwick

Race 6 Saturday 10 April Chelveston (new course)

or TBC time trials

15 December, 2009 21:05

Of course this can be supplemented with the Tuesday and Thursday evening local club TTs!

Other local RRs are Darley Moor and Mallory Park:

06/03/2010 No 1 Darley Moor Reg B Youth Nat B

13/03/2010 No 2 Darley Moor Reg B Youth Nat B

27/03/2010 No 3 Darley Moor Reg B Youth Nat B

20/04/2010 Mallory Park Cycle Racing League Youth Reg C+

22/04/2010 Mallory Park Cycle Racing League Reg C+

27/04/2010 Mallory Park Cycle Racing League Youth Reg C+

29/04/2010 Mallory Park Cycle Racing League Reg C+

Oh and i've just remembered this one:

Bill Jinks RR 28/3/10
has a 4th cat only group therefore great for beginners wanting points! (demolition derby though, you'll get riders with no bunch riding experience!)

Road racing.
Realistically you cant be that competitive in TT without the aero equipment that most other people will have. I will of course be doing local an BUCS TT but only for fun really.
Definitely want to give RR a go, especially since I managed to get my stuck seat post out of my frame, so will actually (hopefully) have a decent bike for racing.

Right-on!

May have to sort an ingenious solution to transport problem.

I'd quite to do the NCRA's cos they're a different course every week and they're handicap races so they'll be a high tempo! Bit futher to travel than the mallory park or darley moor though.

Who's up for road racing? We need an idea of numbers.

22 December, 2009 11:34

im up for anything , the only thing is that I dont get one word of what you're talking about, I'll do road racing sure but what's all these categories ? Second thing is I have no way to get to these events.

22 December, 2009 18:13

We'll try and sort that transport situation out in Jan, Get a van and car going! The way the catorgory system works is you start at 4th and work up to Elite... 4,3,2,1,E.

22 December, 2009 20:04

I'd probably be up for doing a few time trials and maybe one of the beginner road races to see if i could keep up.

22 December, 2009 20:58

The local evening TTs are the easiest, we just meet up Tues/Thursday evening near campus and cycle over to wherever. Road racing's one of those that things you only get better at by doing.

23 December, 2009 14:00

I would be up for some TT's

24 December, 2009 10:07

I'd like to try some low level road racing, there will be a few more gears and a bit more free-wheeling on my bike some time in march.
Have a great Christmas!

25 December, 2009 11:24

Yeah ok i get the basics of it , well im up for the TT's , the races and all basically give a try with all of them, at a low level of course, not completely insane...

There is a TLI (www.nmrrl.org.uk/) league around Worksop way that starts in April. I have ridden it the last few years and liked it. I took the train to worksop and road the last 5-10 miles depending on where each series was (there are 3 series).

Each series is 6 races, 4 of which you ride, one you marshal and one you take the night off. The races are handicapped with the old boys and youngsters in the first group off and the fastest guys in the 3rd or 4th group. It's not as hard as BCF racing and is a good introduction to road racing. However I won't be doing it as I want to concentrate on other things this year. Feel free to contact me if you want any further details about it. It fills up quickly once entry opens so don't hang about if you want to do it.

also see www.theleagueinternational.com

Does seem a better intro to road racing, my only worry is that the first series runs into undergraduate exams.

2 events i have forgotten about which are also a 1/2 decent intro to rr (if you don't get dropped):

~VC Long eaton reliability, always a laugh and a killer at 65 miles with a good 30 in the peaks! - 7th Feb

~Sherwood Reliability, rolling though high pace, around 65 miles. - TBC

If anyone know any events put them down. I'll then try and sort a race season.

06 January, 2010 21:51

Thanks Tom thats the kind of thing I've been looking for.
Paul - I think they are a good option considering our lack of transport.

07 January, 2010 03:20

I would definitely be up for doing them. Think they are Mrch 27th, April 22nd, 29th, May 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th.

I don't know whether it's worth considering avoiding BC racing altogether this year? Would save a lot.

20 January, 2010 04:17

I had a look into the north midlands series, it says £15 per series entry but if we had a team of 4/5 riders we might get in for less. Failing a van/car, it's £6.40 with a railcard to sheffield by train.

The bill jinks race (28/03) sounds good. If we get a team I'm sure we'd take some money in the 4th cat race. The only thing with that race is there's no train for the 9am start, so it'd be a ride there.

Would be good to have some group rides and sort something out.

Ben

up for the TT's!

21 January, 2010 22:15

Thanks for all the input guys!

I the next few days i'll put out an email with details of whats going on both in a biking and 'wattbiking' capacity.

As such we'll be doing TTs from mid March onwards and doing road racing kindly provide by The League International from late march -> may!

Wattbike will be spinning classes until march, for obtiain base miles in a fun capacity...

Wattbiking will be a little different because i now have the software on my laptop to use the wattbikes when linked up. On top of this i have obtained a speaker system for music!

Wattbiking will start next week as will the Wednesday rides. All info will be on the forum very soon. Stay tuned.

Paul
