NUbike Holiday

28 February, 2010 20:42

I'm in a slump and need something to cheer me up.....so lets plan a holiday!

We tried this last year with Tignes...which would have been great, but wasn't.

I'm thinking going to Vallnord bike park in Andorra, sound good? I want to have a butchers about for accomodation so who would fancy coming so I can get an idea of numbers? It'd be a chalet jobby I think.

It's not just DH by the way, there are hundereds of miles of XC trails and such all around the area too.....plus ski lifts so not so much climbing :D

If that wasn't enough, Andorra is tax free...so cheap everything would be on the cards :)

Would love to, but am very busy this summer and only have a couple of one week slots available. What dates are you thinking about?

01 March, 2010 01:00

Sounds like a plan, end of summer around august/sept would be best. Also would be good if its cheap. How long you planning?

01 March, 2010 07:27

Price and dates permitting I'd be up for something like this

01 March, 2010 12:56

I literally just did a dance of excitement. chairlift assisted riding here we come (again....)

01 March, 2010 17:50

Don't worry, it will be cheap.

I see it this way, early in the summer is good as it's quiet, late is good as I might have a new bike :P

Later is probably better though, gives people time to sort their lives out etc, though not too late.

Im thinking either 1 or 2 weeks. If we did 2 weeks we could maybe hit 2 or more of the bike parks and spend a week at each.

So far, the best travel plan seems to be fly out to Tolouse and maybe get a van to Andorra, It'd be a couple of hours.
A quick look on expedia and flights to Tolouse mid Adugust are about £90 return. Accomodation shouldn't be too much if we find an appartment.

There would be the option of driving down (as we though about last year) though it might be a bit much (even though road trips are freakin' awesome!) Speaking to a couple of guys it's about 23 hours from London driving.

01 March, 2010 17:53

Oh, I'm told beer is about 5 euros a crate and very good wine is 10 euros. Tevans.....take note :D

01 March, 2010 20:03

Sack that - just go to malaga - lift assisted in the sun and you can ride down on to a beach at the end of your run.

Failing that - anyone want to come to NZ with me in October?

01 March, 2010 20:13

Where are you going this summer Edi?

Yes, I do want to come to NZ, I'll have a job and all sorts of shit though :S

01 March, 2010 21:28

I'm definitely up for this, although if it was for a whole week it would be ideal for me if it included the weekend, eats into my holiday allowance less you see.

01 March, 2010 21:32

you lost me at 5 euros crate beer

we are going

roadtrippppppppppppppppppppppp

31 March, 2010 02:20

So I've just quickly totted up prices here and there.

For accomodation for 2 weeks, flights, 10 day lift pass and transfers it seems to be just over £400......which is good. That's based on 7 people sharing an appartment.

on top of that is food but it shouldn't be too much. So that seems like a pretty tidy package. If there are more than 7 people we can always sort out more appartments and even a private transfer (cheaper if there's more of us).

Another option would be to road trip, which might be fun but would be a long slog and I'm not sure of the economics of this.

Who is actually interested then? I would like to book this. I'm thinking late July/August?

31 March, 2010 11:15

I'd be very interested in this

however...just to point out i know you're not a tignes fan but

69 euros per person for a week's accomodation

FREE lift pass

so...i dont know that might end up being pretty damn cheap, £121 flights it worked out as on easy jet

no idea about transfer though, but i'd imagine it'd come in under £250 (albeit for a shorter time)

31 March, 2010 13:34

Yeah but a lift pass is always free if your walking up the frigging hill man :p

The trip sounds good though date dependingi may be very interested

31 March, 2010 13:54

We can arrange the dates so it's good for everyone, I'm pretty flexible date wise.

Though Tignes is cheap, I think we'd exhaust the tracks pretty quickly if the lifts were running. The lift pass for Anddorra is valid in both the Vallnord and the Grand Valira bike parks with lifts linking the 2, so we have access to both......which would be sweet.

02 April, 2010 12:35

yessss. I really want to come....

roadtrip it, do a week in tignes with the BUSC then hit Andorra?

Also anyone for the Fort William world cup on the 5-6 June, the weekend after we all finish exams?

02 April, 2010 20:03

If you hit Fort Bill I'lI jump in the van on the way

08 April, 2010 17:09

Sounds good, just wondering about bikes + planes? Or would we rent there?

08 April, 2010 18:39

It's not a problem Lewis, don't worry.

Just whack it in a bike box and remove anything that might get bent or lost (ahemhubspacersahem). It costs a small amount more to take on the plane but is HUGELY more cost effective than renting.......or use a bike bag, but a box is fine.

I'm going to start a facebook group anyway, so I'll put the link up.

08 April, 2010 21:17

WIll keep an eye on this, although there are issues of me being a) able to make it and b)a mincing XC rider who'd die horribly at all of these places. How bad can it be?

11 April, 2010 12:39

I really wouldn't worry, you are far too modest regarding your skills on a bike John. I've heard the story of you clearing the table at Hopton :)

There will be something for everyone from big, wide, flat, fireroads (Tevans) to Uber-techy death tracks (Francis).

14 April, 2010 11:40

to be honest, i still think tignes could end up cheaper.

and hah at the fireroads. very funny.

14 April, 2010 16:50

It will, without a doubt, but I just think Andorra will be better as there's much more to ride there........also there wont be any snowboard, rah fags being gnarly and totally awesome to make me want to get stabby (but then, suppose it's some company).

I really think if we were in Tignes for a full week (with uplift) then we'd just exhaust the trails around there. We rode that one track mainly and I had kind of got bored of it (that'd be a days riding with lift) and from what I saw of the other tracks they weren't all that good (that one me and simon rode on the other side was wankeriffic).

If I had the money, I'd do both but I doubt I will have so Andorra takews the win for me. HOWEVER, don't let this sway anyone elses opinion, just my thoughts. I'll no doubt end up going anyway even if there's just a couple of us (I know Joe and Simon are pretty sold on the idea).

For anyone who might be interested in Tignes, it works like this. It's kind of a snow sports week at the start of summer but they let us tag along and get some riding in. It's pretty fun as the skiers/snowboarders sort out various shit to do at nights but they are all a bit Rah.
It works out dead cheap. Any idea when it is this year Tevans?

Fireroads just a bit of banter mate, facking banta innit! LADS ON TOUR!

14 April, 2010 19:22

its 3-10th this year, but tbh i was looking at doing it seperately, as its free lift passes + accomodation looked to be pretty cheap (£50 a week i think per person?)

thats mainly why im swayed by tignes, money, andorra will undoubtedly be better riding, but, costs alot more and im a poor student

i guess fucking andorra it is though, cheaper to smash it up innit, get on the lash, chunder, banter, fucking get on it.

16 April, 2010 16:42

Dude, if you're really against Andorra the we can do Tignes. It will be cheaper.

Did you mean just hitting up Tignes seperate to the SS (as they will now be known)? 50 quid for a week lift pass and accomodation is fecking cheap! Could probably afford to do both at that, lulz.

16 April, 2010 21:36

i'm not so much against andorra as epic riding to be had there, and would be more fun i reckon, its justtttttt that cost, idk idk!

19 April, 2010 10:52

got a mate interested in joining either, one more for the group

19 April, 2010 11:46

Is it Gary? If it's Gary we might have to charter a separate plane for his bike.

I'm still keen, but what I do need to do is work out how I'd get there for just the one week, might need to hire my own car and navigate the pyrenees by myself.

19 April, 2010 11:49

Joe, you're key to when we can go. What dates are good for you?

19 April, 2010 21:47

i would be up for doing both...

06 May, 2010 19:10

just had a look at gong straight from tignes to andorra. cheapest way looks like flying from geneva to barce and getting the transfer from there.

flights on easyjet are £60 ish with the transfer another £35...

06 May, 2010 23:45

If we were to do that, we may as well road trip it. It would take longer but would be cheaper and more fun :)

10 May, 2010 19:15

yeah id be up for that. car?

10 May, 2010 19:47

aye, whose got the car....i can supply a box trailer (pimped out with stickers and everything, we'll look bare pro)

11 May, 2010 09:59

Can we have a meeting for this and then we can set dates etc?

11 May, 2010 13:43

Prob a shout, wouldnt be NUbike funded i'd like to note though, though if hiring something we can go via uni to get it cheaper

13 May, 2010 15:34

i reckon combine it with the agm..

13 May, 2010 18:33

Um, take it you mean committee meeting? yeah deffo, tbh i'm pretty tempted to just hit up SS, as might have to get back to you know, do work and that shit.

15 May, 2010 02:13

yes thats the one.

15 May, 2010 08:59

Just found this.

If we go in multiples of 3 (due to the bring 2 mates go free thing) it costs £160 a week for accomodation, transfers, lift pass!

HOLY MOLEY!!

For 3 weeks it works out at about £300 each!

CONSIDER NOW!

It's in Manzine too.

18 May, 2010 11:45

I will ring you tonight to get my head round what is going on. I am more confused than Chris Kovarik confronted by something that he can neither smash or eat.
