Just had this in from Lynn at the AU, see if any of you roadies are interested:
Dear Students,
You and the members of your sports clubs are invited to take part in the inaugural Ride Around London sportive which has won the support of Gold Medalists Rebecca Romero, James Cracknell and Jody Cundy and more recently London Mayor Boris Johnson who said, "As a keen cyclist myself, I am hugely supportive of Access Sport's new Ride Around London cycle challenge. By jumping on your bike, seeing our great city in all it's glory and having a huge amount of fun, you will also be helping to secure a genuine sporting legacy for those Londoners who need it most. Book your place today!"
Ride Around London is a unique fundraising cycling event that will take place on Sunday 25th September 2011. It will be a challenging 115 mile
(approx.) annual cycling event taking in some of the fantastic cycling that London has to offer. The carefully planned route, taking in Olympic landmarks past and present, has been devised by respected cycle-tour veteran Andy Cook (see below). Starting at the Herne Hill Velodrome, the route then goes up the iconic Box Hill, along the beautiful North Downs, through Windsor Great Park, passing Eton Dorney and the Chilterns and finishing next to the brand new 2012 Lee Valley White Water Centre.
£28 pounds entry fee.
As this is a fundraising challenge to help transform young lives
through sport we suggest a £50 fundraise per person.
The Ride Around London is an opportunity not just for a two-wheeled challenge, but also to help transform lives through sport. Funds raised from the event will help Access Sport to deliver quality community sport, including cycling, to children in the most disadvantaged areas of the United Kingdom.
In addition to the full route Ride Around London has incorporated two shorter events for the 25th September:
60 mile / 100km Route
25 mile / 40km Trail Challenge
Access Sport ambassador James Cracknell, said: “Ride Around London is a cycling event with a difference. It’s an exciting challenge that allows you to be part of creating a sporting and cycling legacy as funds raised go to build better access to sport for kids in disadvantaged areas in our great capital city. I cannot wait for it to kick off.”
