Original Source Mountain Mayhem
Entry forms out the end of this month... How about a NUBike team of ten?
I would actually do team of 10 - reckon I might be able to hack that....
otherwise just put me down for team bitch,.. but without the tyre-changing-in-a-bog-at-3am duties I got from mister Dymond last year ;-)
Err er yeah maybe up for it, either in a silly or sensible sized team (I'll leave you to decide which is which).
Colour of website nicely reflects predicted course conditions. Maybe needs more brown though.
Phil R and Keith are up for it too!
We're half way there already :-)
Stu, Amit and Simon are also tempted...
Me,
Andy,
Keith,
Phil R,
Amit,
Simon,
Stu,
Nearly enough for a team! Entry opens at Midnight on the 28th.
I'll have an ask round the XC folk here.... all 2 of them.. we must be able to do this...
How about DJ - he'll be roped in to a good cause...
D'oh! Missed DJ's name off the list.
What about Chris B?
I'm in but only if I can bagsy the dawn lap, in the dry.
How about we go for a team and then find 2 willing volunteers for the last 2 places - will ask Gate and Phil G at weekend...
I think I'm going to have to pass on this in the end... It's the weekend of Ellie's birthday and don't htink I can justify running off to the country for a weekend of playing in the mud...
Sorry...
count me in for this :-)
God speed and a fair wind to the entry form!
Get training guys...
..we're in!
The dream team, in alphabetical order:
Amit
Andy
David
James
Pete
Phil
Phil
Roger
Simon
Stu
Wicked.
Awesome... Since we're not taking this at all seriously, may I be the to propose fancy dress?
(can of worms....)
Jimbo - since you want some cash can you email me an address to send it to please, or your bank details.
James who?!
James me :-)
Oops, of course!
Seeing as one or two people will have night laps I have some Ay-Up lights for sale... Anybody interested in some red anodised LED bundles of joy?
Man down!
Well, 2 actually... Replacements for Pete & Stu required.
Money received from Roger, Simon and Gradwell so far. Muchos gracias.
I think fancy dress is necessary...
Well if it comes down to it I could probably make it..... just as long as I get my laps in before about 8pm :)
Any preference for what sort of fancy dress? We've already done Harajuku girls...

Oh, and the year before too!!!
I have a banana costume if we go with a fruity theme!
So do we still have 10 men?
With Pete offering to do his laps on the Saturday, we're only 1 man short...
Sweet. So who's actually on the team now?
I'm gonna ask a mate from work (who commutes quite a bit) if he wants to give it a go, if thats ok...
The 10 N.U.Bikers dressed as Mexicans are:
1 Amit C
2 Andy R
3 David J
4 James H
5 Pete T
6 Phil G
7 Phil R
8 Roger C
9 Simon C
10 ????
How do you dress as a mexican then?
Mate from work can't make it...so we're still down 1 hombre!
Peat G exists!
But he can't make it.
Chris B?
...or Andy / Chris B have one or two fast biking mates in Warwickshire (one mainly roadie now but did used to mtb).
How are we going to decide who goes when?
Unless anyone has a better idea, first dibs on lap 2!
PS do we have gazebos/marquee/motorhome to use, or are we all just sharing a three-man tent for the weekend?
No idea how I'm going to get there yet - haven't ruled out riding the 90 or so miles from Swansea.....
Francis has been talked into being 10th man this weekend!
When are people planning on arriving?
There will be a new unique patented system for deciding who goes when... :-)
Yeah, how exactly do you dress as a Mexican? I'm not wearing a sombrero or poncho riding round in the blazing sun (it will be hot I can feel it).
Anyone got a bike I can borrow for a few laps? Mine is kaput.
I'll bring a BBQ and a big bag of potatos.
DJ - if you want to ride there I can bring you a spare tent.
Cheers Phil - I'm waiting on the weather situation (that and I have no idea if my rack fits the rohloff bike. Not riding 90 miles with a damn great backpack on).
I could lend you a bike in return but I suspect it would be on the large side ;-)
Phil, you can use my bike if you want...
Hi, I'm really sorry but I won't be able to come.
It clashes with a clinical trial I am taking part in, and I have not been able to rearrange it. :-(
I hope you manage to find someone in time and good luck with the race.
Everyone arriving on Friday?
I'm arriving Friday late afternoon/evening. Anyone there any earlier? Has anyone got any gazeebo action this year?
I'll be there friday, won't be early mind!
Does the silence on gazebos mean we have a gazebo famine? I could pick up one of these bad-boys:

(Or maybe just this)
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6502777/Trail/searchtext%3EGAZEBO.htm
There is a Gazebo famine.
Who's singlespeeding?
And we still only have 9 riders
And we don't have any sombreros!
Anyone got any space in their tent for Friday night? I'm heading off on Saturday so if I could get away without bringing my tent it'd be great.....
Wicked, cheers Amit. I'm going to bring Pams bike along as backup. I'll be there Saturday morning sometime, so I'll give someone a ring when I'm on route.
Rog and I will be there sat morning...
FYI, there's a warning on the MM website about 17 mile tail-backs in the area on sat due to the Malvern Show...
I'll be there on the Saturday, looks like I'll be setting off early doors to avoid the tailbacks, otherwise it's night laps for me!
See you there lads!
Last year's MM killed off three Gazebos otherwise we would have been ok...
Pete- space in my tent I'm bringing a decent sized one.
Jimbo- looks like you or I will be first there to bagsy a campsite.
For anyone that doesn't have it my number's 07725812714 though reception is notoriously bad round there.
Forecast = overcast!
Wahey!
See you all very later,
it seems there's another team of 10 mexicans...
http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/mountain-mayhem-place-team-of-10
damn those jocks from louugabuuurough!
Nadine is unwell, so we may be travelling down Saturday am now...
And we'd better all bring our A game if we're gonna beat those Lougborough Uni old boys!
Cheers Chris - will see you tonight!
I'll be along 8-9am Saturday am.
Hope you boys in the team of 10 have plenty of chairs!
I have a Gazebo! Its brown!
I'll hopefuly be there before dark.....

Scroll forward for more Andy and both Phils.
Results are out!
10 man team is def. the way forward to make 24hr racing more sociable!
35 SECONDS separating us and Gringos after 12 hours of racing. Never more than 20 minutes in it throughout the race. What an epic struggle ;-)

Congratulations!
But also... gutted!! How did you lose 1st?!!
Wow! Gutted I couldn't stay until the end.
Would it be sand-bagging to do it again next year? :)
JD, can't say we paid any attention to the results till 4hrs to go...
You missed out though, 10 man team is the future!
Nice pics. Agree with Jimbo - 10 man is the way forward.
Pete and Simon - I have your medals. Can post if you send me your addresses.
Well done everyone! Can't help but think if my second night lap had gone just a little better we could have clinched first. :-s
