April bank hol weekend
Started a new thread as the other one seems to have gone slightly off-topic.
Anyway, who's up for some riding on Sat 11th & Sun 12th April? I'll be down south so happy to lead a North Downs or South Downs ride.
Or ideas for other locations? Ruth, fancy showing us around the Forest of Dean perhaps?
can't join you unfortunately...will be away during easter.
FoD good with me - not been there for ages.
Or can I chuck in a vote for Thetford too?
:-)
Sounds good to me, well FoD anyway!
Hello there,
FoD sounds good to me and definitely up for a weekend of it. Free most of April really so whenever...
Sorry to throw a spanner in the works, but being Easter weekend, I cant do that weekend, because I might be in Wales, are there any other dates instead or is this set?
D'oh, never mind Ruth.
Anyone fancy S Downs then?
South Downs souds good to me, Ellie has to study all weekend so maybe we could camp in brighton? (ooh-er!)
Have route guide book too.
Cheers,
Keith
Yeah, be up for an overnight stay somewhere. Amit and I also talked about maybe road ride one day, mtb the other. (Not very camping friendly though with bikes needing to be left in cars)
If you're all going to be anywhere roughly between Birmingham and S Wales I might have been able to make it. If you going to be that far south I'll probably have to give it a miss....
I have been thinking we all might meet up for a big-ass road ride (with CLIMBING) but thought I'd get flamed.... But then Amit is even more roadie than me so I'm sure he's not ashamed ;-)
I can probably only really sapre a day as I'll be mostly working on new kitchens that week....
road ride sounds good - not sur about climbing though - I've only got a double... plus it means going fast on way down and the road bike just scares me at speed on descents
Road Riding???
Wha???!!!???
Come on guys, if you want to ride on the road, ride to work! ;) Some of us are stuck in the concrete jungle and need to get out on some trails!
*shakes head in bemusement*
K
"i've only got a double..."
You also have an average cadence* of about 10 rpm, so that shouldn't pose you a problem.
Could always have a midlands-based road ride...? I may also be at Cannock some time over Easter. Claire has bought a mountain bike and it would be good if I could she could have a go round somewhere not as knarly and hilly as wales. Hmmm, not sure I'd be popular if I propose bringing three bikes for four days away tho!
*Pete, feel free to introduce a swear filter for nasty roadie words like this.
"Some of us are stuck in the concrete jungle and need to get out on some trails!"
Move to Wales. You can bring the Olympics with you if you like :-)
Road riding, in winter, in the dark, in private: Acceptable.
Road riding, in the spring, in the sunshine, on a bank holiday: Not acceptable.
[bump]
Right, I've dug out the S Downs route I fancy, all whopping 82km of it - but of course it'll be a gorgeous sunny day so we can take our time!
So how about that beast on Sat, nice campsite on the S Downs Sat evening and then a shorter ride somewhere else (North Downs?) on the Sunday?
Now that sounds like a plan.
82km? That's gonna hurt....
I was gonna suggest taking lights for a night-ride but I don't think I'll be able to see after 82km of riding!
I definately think I'll be taking the full susser for this then (was contemplating the hardtail!)
Don't worry Keith, it's a twisty, loopy route so there are lots of options for shorter routes / bail-outs if needed.
How many tents do I need to (try &) book for camping then?
1. me
2. Jimbo (& Nadine?)
3. Keith
Cool. Do you want me to bring any OS maps? I can borrow N and S downs ones from work :)
How much is the campsite too? Couldn't see any prices on the website...
Scratch that... Found the prices (clearly labeled from the home page... Doh!)
