Hello oldboys,
There has been talk recently, both from us current students and some old boys of reinstating the once annual tradition of an undergrads/current students vs oldboys race.
To get the ball rolling, let's decide on a few things...
Firstly, we could do our own private race and mark out a course at Hemlock/Bestwood and hold a race there as we have been doing for the past years' NUBike XC Series, but perhaps a more exciting option would be to hold the race within an existing event - perhaps the Sherwood round of the nationals or a localish round of the Mids XC, say at Cannock.
I know the Oxford vs Cambridge varsity is organised within a Gorrick race, so we would have to figure out how to do it - either everyone races their cats e.g. open, sport and we compare lap times (though this obviously isn't ideal as people race different numbers of laps) or we ask the organisers of a race series to hold a specific cat for us at the race, just for an undergrads vs oldboys race.
I know that some ex-NUBikers were involved with the running of the Midlands series over the past few years but I understand this is set to change next year.
Any thoughts on how best to go about it? And please spread the word to other oldboys.
Cheers,
Alex

I'd be pretty up for this. I've been denying my DH roots and doing a fair bit of XC recently. Don't expect too much lycra though

I'll do this....as apparently I'm an old boy now :(
Have you seen any of the ThisIsSheffield spring races? They look ace, great fun! They had their own Miniavalanche up in the Peaks. Might be able to get some ideas from there.

Fixed. Good to see we're getting some interest. Really need to start making the new website, deleting the spam/double posts on this one is becoming a pain...

Then it aint mountain biking! Anyway think we'd have some trouble with that considering we got told to stop by security during our campus freeride, and that wasn't even a race.

I lost count of the amount of times we got told off by security for campus freeride, although mostly for not having lights on....
I take it there's been no other takers for this, so it would be just me and Andy representing?

Wow! This would be sweet as! Not sure how you'd keep the DHers and the XCers ready at the same time...
We're talking about doing a winter race over in Stoke, so should be in term time and just a quick trip down the A50...
Also, speaking for some of the 'old girls', they hope there are some new girls to race against!

Jimbo: Sounds great, keep us posted on here and if you want to discuss anything aeydao at nottingham is the email.
I'm sure we'd get a good attendance - all the people above plus everyone who is into XC and currently a student would be up for it I reckon!

Count me in as an old boy.
Well almost old man at this rate...
urban, xc, dh, whatever - any or all of it is good!
Otherwise we have a (very) local XC timetrial series that you could come along too (hour and 20 from Notts) if we need an event...

For any Oldboys reading this, the venue and date has been set as Rd 2, Cannock Chase, Sunday 18th March. We're in the process of setting the time, no. of laps, and entry process out, and will post here when all has been finalised.
